New Painting almost finished Nauvoo Temple “A Cornerstone of Zion”The Nauvoo temple was to become the heart and crowning jewel of Nauvoo. The Lord told Joseph Smith, “Your prayers are acceptable before me; and in answer to them I say unto you, that you are now called immediately to make a solemn proclamation of my gospel, and of this stake which I have planted to be a cornerstone of Zion, which shall be polished with the refinement which is after the similitude of a palace. as a cornerstone of Zion.”
Doctrine and Covenants 124:2
Artists Thoughts: Fine sacred buildings, like the Nauvoo Temple, have intricate Workmanship in its design. I needed steady hands of surgical Precision and of course brushes that behave perfectly. Not to mention, a few Thimbles of the patience of Job! But most of all a love for the better things in life.
This painting represents for me in my life a great symbol of, our Father’s plan of salvation and exaltation for His children on both sides of the veil in all ages, past, present and future. My ambition in a small way is for this painting, to help the world to see how God see’s and become more like Him and His Son Jesus Christ.
From the Life of Lorenzo Snow:
In the spring of 1840, Lorenzo Snow was in Nauvoo, Illinois, preparing to leave for a mission in England. He visited the home of his friend Henry G. Sherwood, and he asked Brother Sherwood to explain a passage of scripture. “While attentively listening to his explanation,” President Snow later recalled, “the Spirit of the Lord rested mightily upon me—the eyes of my understanding were opened, and I saw as clear as the sun at noonday, with wonder and astonishment, the pathway of God and man. I formed the following couplet which expresses the revelation, as it was shown me. …
“As man now is, God once was: As God now is, man may be.”
