The Story
The sixth of April in 1841 was a memorable day in the history of Nauvoo. On that day, the cornerstones of the great temple that God had commanded his people to build, is laid! Early that morning, the sisters had presented to Joseph Smith and the Nauvoo Legion a silk flag with twenty-seven stars representing each state in the union. This flag was saluted with canon fire and then accompanied the Nauvoo legion as it made its solemn, sacred march up Mulholland street to the Laying of the Cornerstone Ceremony.
